At KSA Manufacturing, we are proud of our experience in fabrication and working with a wide variety of materials. Below are listed several materials we work with on a regular basis with descriptions designed to help you decide which material may be best suited for your specific project:
STAINLESS STEEL
304 grade chromium-nickel stainless steel retains an untarnished silvery surface under atmospheric conditions and has excellent heat oxidation resistance up to approximately 1600 deg F. In the annealed condition it is non-magnetic. Type 304 has a maximum carbon content of .08% to minimize susceptibility to intergranular corrosion which may result when the metal is heated to within 900 deg. F. Because of its great ductility and exceptional toughness, it can be severely drawn, spun, rolled, machined or otherwise worked in the cold state and has exceptional welding properties. Type 304 is recommended for corrosive environments.
316 chromium-nickel alloy has a low carbon and high nickel content. It has a superior corrosion resistance to chromium-nickel grades (such as 304)- particularly in acidic environments. The molybdenum tends to increase passivity, improves the alloy's corrosion resistance in general, and helps minimize pitting or pin-hole corrosion under certain conditions. This grade has good creep strength at elevated temperatures.
Type 316 is used principally in highly corrosive environments, especially those where sulphite or various dye and bleach solutions are used.
304L & 316L Types , containing a maximum of only 0.03% carbon, are extra low carbon alloys that offer better corrosion resistance adjacent to brazes. The small carbon content eliminates harmful carbon precipitation during the brazing operation.
304L & 316L low carbon grades are recommended only for equipment made for service below the lower sensitizing temperature of 800 deg. F - especially in severe corrosive conditions and are not recommended for use at high temperature. Both grades can be highly polished with no surface blemishes.
BRASS
Brass is a copper alloy containing zinc as the principal alloying element with or without alloying elements such as iron, aluminum, nickel and silicon. Free-machining brass has excellent machinability and can be fabricated by machining, roll threading and knurling.
ALUMINUM
Aluminum is one of the most common materials used in manufacturing strong, lightweight parts. KSA executes a wide variety of custom welding, fabricating, machining and brazing of aluminum implements and tubing. We also fabricate extrusions and perform parts assembly.
CARBON STEEL
Carbon Steel is a strong metal alloy combining iron and carbon. KSA Manufacturing does tooling, welding, fabricating and machining of carbon steel for a variety of products and applications.
COPPER
Copper and copper alloys are amongst the most versatile material available and are used for a wide variety of applications in every type of industry. KSA Manufacturing has the facilities to bend, cut, weld, fabricate and finish a broad spectrum of copper products.
EXOTIC ALLOYS
KSA Manufacturing has fabricated super alloy materials such as high performance hastelloy and heat and inconel. Depending on the application and specifications we can also work with titanium.
